Can we just do a DBS check on all our volunteers irrespective of whether they are working with vulnerable people?
No, it would be unreasonable discrimination to check all volunteer roles. The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 and the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 (Exceptions) Order 1975 set out what convictions can and cannot be disclosed and in what circumstances. In this context we are looking at unsupervised access to children and/or vulnerable adults, so Youth Club Leaders, Teachers, Nurses, Care Workers, etc.
