Shine: The Power of Light
December always brings a need for light and warmth, and today’s advent word captures that perfectly.
For me, “shine” takes me back to 1997 and the Eurovision Song Contest. I was just a child when Katrina and the Waves performed Love Shine a Light, but I’ve never forgotten that moment.
My family gathered around the tv, the room filled with excitement. Katrina and the Waves performed, with such energy and optimism. We watched and waited with anticipation while the votes were revealed. When the result confirmed they’d won, we celebrated with a sense of shared pride and connection. That memory still warms my heart.
The Light of Advent
The lyrics, “Love shine a light in every corner of the world,” resonate deeply, especially during advent. It’s a time when we’re reminded of the importance of light – not just the twinkling lights on trees or in windows, but the light we carry within us. Advent invites us to reflect on how we can share that light with others, through small acts of kindness, moments of gratitude, or simply by being present for those we care about.
The Unifying Power of Music
I’m struck by how music has a unique power to bring people together. That song didn’t just win a contest; it united many in a shared moment of joy and hope. It’s a reminder that even a single spark – whether a song, a gesture, or a kind word can illuminate the darkness.
