Lifted for the Holidays: Embracing the Season with Joy and Purpose
As a business owner, a military wife, and a mum of three, the holiday season brings unique joys and challenges. Every year, the lead-up to Christmas can feel like a whirlwind, with an endless list of to-dos, both at home and at work. But as I’ve learned over the years, there’s a special kind of magic that comes when we’ve consciously “lifted” ourselves—and each other—through this busy season.
In a world that can sometimes feel heavy, “lifted” is a reminder to rise above the noise, celebrate what matters, and lift up those around us. With this in mind, I wanted to share a few reflections on what it means to feel “lifted” during the holidays and how we can all carry this spirit with us into the new year.
1. Lifted by Purpose
For those of us in business, it’s easy to feel weighed down by goals and responsibilities, especially in December when so many year-end deadlines loom. But this season, I’m reminding myself to focus on purpose. When I’m intentional about why I’m working, every task feels lighter. Purpose lifts us out of the day-to-day grind and brings a sense of meaning.
This purpose also extends to my role as a wife and mother. Being a military family means that holidays can sometimes look a little different for us—maybe fewer gatherings, sometimes even celebrating apart. But when we’re lifted by purpose, it reminds us of what’s truly important: family, resilience, and the joy of supporting each other.
2. Lifted by Connection
There’s a quiet strength in gathering with loved ones, friends, and neighbours, whether in person or virtually. The act of connecting, of sharing even the simplest moments, is incredibly uplifting. As a mum, seeing the excitement in my children’s eyes, the simple joy they feel when decorating the tree or baking cookies, reminds me that joy can be found in the smallest things.
In business, too, there’s power in connection. Reaching out to clients, showing gratitude to team members, and letting others know how much their support means is a way to lift others and strengthen bonds. This season, I’m leaning into connection as a way to spread joy and gratitude, knowing that even a small gesture can make a big difference.
3. Lifted by Gratitude
The holidays bring a natural pause, a time to reflect on all we’re grateful for. Gratitude has the power to lift us like little else – it turns what we have into enough. This season, I’m grateful for my family’s support, for the laughter of my children, for the sacrifices my husband makes, and for the gift of running a business that allows me to make an impact.
For anyone who finds this season challenging, practicing gratitude, even for small things, can be a comforting ritual. When we focus on gratitude, we lift our spirits and shine a light on the good things that can often go overlooked.
4. Lifted by Giving Back
Giving is at the heart of the holiday season, and giving back to others brings a different kind of joy – a joy that stays with us long after the holiday lights are packed away. My family and I find ways, big and small, to give back during the holidays, whether it’s supporting other families, volunteering, or simply helping neighbours.
In my business, I’m inspired by the ways we can also give back. Supporting clients, collaborating with nonprofits, and working to make a difference are just a few ways to add purpose to the work we do. When we lift others, we lift ourselves, creating a ripple effect of positivity.
Carrying this into the New Year
As we approach the holiday season, I encourage you to embrace what lifts you. Whatever challenges you may face, let’s lift each other by focusing on purpose, connection, gratitude, and giving. And as we step into a new year, let’s carry that sense of being “lifted” forward, finding ways to rise above and support each other along the way.
This season, I wish you all a lifted heart, a lightened spirit, and a holiday filled with meaning, joy, and purpose.
